Spirometry Filters used in Pulmonary function laboratories

Spirometry Filters are used in pulmonary function laboratories for trapping bacteria and viruses, ensuring prevention of any cross-contamination.

What are Spirometry Filter?

Filters used in pulmonary function laboratories are consumable items used for trapping bacteria and viruses, ensuring prevention of any cross-contamination. The filters generally consist of a flat wad of electrostatically charged fibres or pleats formed from a wad of fibres.
These filters may/should have hydrophobic properties.

Why use Spirometry Filters

  • They are also designed to stop moisture droplets passing to and from the spirometer.
  • Spirometry Filters protects both patient and spirometer from cross contamination
  • Should be used when an inspiratory manoeuvre is performed or when testing patients who pose a health risk to others.
